AR Rahman says working in Rajinikanth’s films was ‘hell’

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman looks back on making music Rajinikanth Movies of the old days, and remembered how it wasn’t always the most enjoyable experience. He said that he will always have to give priority to Rajinikanth’s films, which would annoy other directors working with him, as Rahman used to work on multiple projects simultaneously. He continued, “I used to do three films, so other directors used to say, ‘Mera stuff is coming on Diwali bhi, AR’. It was hell. I hated all these festivals, because they gave me hell no matter what. Be it Diwali or New Year or Pongal, because I never used to enjoy. Now there is more leisure.”

Rahman has composed music for many of Rajinikanth’s films such as Muthu, Sivaji: The Boss, Enthiran and most recently, 2.0. At the film’s trailer launch event in 2018, Rahman said, “Superstar is my favorite hero. It is because of his continuity in his career. I am inspired by his lifestyle. I am also attracted by his spirituality.”

Rahman has won six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, one BAFTA Award, one Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards and seventeen Filmfare Awards South.
