Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz said that the third monsoon system will enter some parts of the country today. Strong system likely to affect Sindh from 23rd to 26th July, with heavy rain likely in Karachi from 24th to 26th July.

According to Sarfaraz, 80 percent of the country will receive heavy rains due to the new system. He said that the upper part of the country is likely to be affected tonight, while southern Punjab and Balochistan will be affected tomorrow morning.

The Chief Meteorologist said that moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are strengthening the monsoon system and the moisture coming from the Arabian Sea will support it.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains till August 15 in the first phase of monsoon.

The PMD, in its daily report, has warned that heavy rains could lead to urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala from July 20 to 23.

During the forecast period, rain may cause landslides in Kashmir, Galiyat, Mari, Chilas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astor and Skardu.

“Monsoon currents are entering the upper and central parts of the country and are likely to strengthen during the next 24 hours,” the PMD said.

In addition, the Met Office said that rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur over Kashmir, Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and East Balochistan today.
