ANKARA: Turkey on Tuesday called on Greece to withdraw its armed forces from the Aegean islands, warning that it would challenge them if its country fails to challenge the status of the islands.
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said during a joint news conference with his North Macedonian counterpart that Greece was building up a military presence on the Aegean islands in violation of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne and the 1947 Treaty of Paris. He said the islands were handed over to Greece on the condition that they be kept demilitarized.
