Targeting Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s controversial statement on “lungi wearers”, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav He said that it seems that he is talking about the dress of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Maurya had also commented on the cap worn by members of a specific community, to which Akhilesh said the language of BJP leaders would further change, and that it would become filthy as elections approached.
When asked about Harishankar Tiwari and his son Vinay Shankar joining the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh said that those who want to join the SP are welcome.
Speaking to the media at the SP office in Lucknow on Sunday, Akhilesh said, “BJP is creating a gulf in the society and is only doing politics of hate. The language of BJP leaders will change further and it will become filthy as elections approach.
He said, ‘If you asked the BJP about the income of a businessman, they would not have any answer. If you ask him a question on unemployment, no one will be able to answer. Today inflation has doubled. Decisions like demonetisation and GST have increased inflation.
Talking about the deputy CM’s lungi remark, Akhilesh said, “As far as the dress is concerned, the BJP will continue to speak such filthy language. The people of Uttar Pradesh have made up their mind that not a Yogi government but a ‘worthy’ government will be formed. It seems that he (Keshav Prasad Maurya) has seen the chief minister’s dress (lungi), his outfit closely, hence saying such things. Keshav Maurya ji’s fight is not with the people of the opposition, his fight is with the people inside his party.
Sources said that Harishankar Tiwari and his son Vinay, who is a BSP MLA from Chilupar assembly seat in Gorakhpur, recently met Akhilesh in Lucknow. He said that soon the influential Tiwari family of Purvanchal may join the SP. Harishankar is considered a big name among the Brahmin leaders of Purvanchal.
