“The whole country knows…all your media surveys are showing that Channi is the most popular leader in Punjab…BJP is making a mistake. It is Charanjit Singh Channi and not Captain Amarinder Singh. BJP is making a mistake by trying to intimidate and strangle them. He will stand tall,” AICC in-charge for Punjab Harish Choudhary said at a press conference he addressed along with Congress communications department head Randeep Surjewala.
The video put out by the official Twitter handle of the Congress touted two questions and whether he would be projected as the CM face.
The video was picked up from a lengthy interview of Bollywood actor-turned-philanthropist Sonu Sood and his sister and Congress’ Moga candidate Malvika Sood, given to journalist Barkha Dutt for their YouTube channel Mojo Story.
Responding to a question whether he would one day enter politics and whether any party had offered to project him as its CM face, he said, “It was discussed very seriously.” However, he did not say which party had made this offer to him.
He then went on to say that “the real Chief Minister is the one who is brought to the chair, not the one who has to struggle to get there, not the one who has to say that he is the CM candidate and he deserves it”. . The real Chief Minister, Sood said, “There has to be a back-bencher, who should be brought to the fore and said that he will be the CM. Only such a person can bring about a change.”
Congress picked up that comment from the video and made it into a 36-second clip, in which Channi appears 12 times.
