After dosa in Bengaluru, British High Commissioner Alex Ellis tries Vada Pav in Mumbai

The British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, has become a social media sensation with his knack of trying everything homegrown – this time it was the Vada Pav.

Ellis, who is currently in Maharashtra meeting top state officials including the chief minister, was also seen exploring the state. After getting into the festive mood by visiting a Ganpati workshop ahead of the state’s biggest festival, Ganesh Chaturthi, he tasted Mumbai’s iconic street food.

Posing in the backdrop of Gateway of India, the diplomat shared a picture enjoying breakfast. “There’s always time to do vadapav in Mumbai,” he wrote online, “Lai Bhari” meaning sublime in true Maharashtrian style.

As most people advised him earlier that Indian cuisine tastes best when eaten with hand, it seems that he is carrying on the tradition this time as well, with the suggestion that he eat dosa without knife and fork.

However, many commented that they should probably try breakfast not from a high-end hotel like Taj but from a local shop to experience the authentic taste.

Seeing Alice eating the vada pav, the US consulate in Mumbai asked her to join the US Consul General at Asavad’s Range, a popular restaurant known for “the best Maharashtrian street food in the city.”

Not only enjoying street food and getting into the festive mood, Ellis also met the famous dabbawalas of Mumbai who are often considered an essential part of most of the millennials living in the city.

Sharing a picture with renowned delivery personnel of the city, he said that he is delighted to receive his signature multi-tiered tiffin box as a gift.

Alice is gaining popularity online with her candid approach while exploring different parts of India and even learning different languages. While he shared a complete video of him talking in Hindi after meeting UP CM Yogi Adityanath, before that he also supported Rahul Dravid will learn Kannada And make a friendly joke during India Vs. England Chain.
