Adoption fees reduced at local shelters in central Michigan

Area shelters hope you will open the door and your heart to a new furry companion during Bissell’s Empty Shelter program this week.

Beth Wellman, director of the Humane Society of Midland County, said, “Any shelter that participates offers its animals for a very small adoption fee, while still having those fees covered by Bissell. “

In central Michigan, Wellman says you can adopt your new pet, as well as at animal control centers in Saginaw, Bay and Genesee counties, and the Shiawassee Humane Society, for no more than $25.

With Bissell covering all the investigation, it’s the perfect time to find a four-legged friend who craves to move from a cage to a couch.

“Especially for new adopters, you will probably need to get a dog crate or cat litter box and all the supplies you need to keep a pet, especially if this is going to be your first pet, at shelter events. Spaying is a great opportunity to save yourself a little money and be able to be fully equipped to start your new pet off right,” Wellman said.

And when people make the leap into pet ownership this week, it’s not only saving them money, but making room for more animals to rescue.

“We don’t sit at empty kennels. If we have space to help other animals, it just means more animals find a safe place to have time to find themselves a forever home, Wellman said.

This week, the animals are patiently waiting for their new families.
