ACB implicates PMC’s deputy engineer for taking ‘Rs 40,000 bribe’

The State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) sub-engineer for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a building contractor.

The accused Sudhir Vithalrao Sonawane (51) is attached to the post of Deputy Engineer (Class 2) in the road department of PMC.

According to the press release issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Srihari Patil, the building contractor approached Sonawane to clear his bills for repairing the premises of the PMC-run school in 2018-2019.

But Sonawane demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the contractor, the police said. After negotiations, Sonawane agreed to clear the contractor’s bill on payment of Rs 40,000, police said.

After this the contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB Pune office. Police said that after verification of the complaint, an ACB team laid a trap and caught Sonawane red-handed while receiving money at his office in PMC.
