Abu Dhabi bans single use plastic bags

Abu Dhabi: A ban on single-use plastic bags came into effect on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

“To encourage sustainable living in Abu Dhabi, the ban on single-use plastic bags begins today,” the Emirates Media Office said.

“Retailers in the Emirates are encouraged to offer eco-friendly reusable bags with a nominal fee to encourage positive behavior change in the community and support the emirate’s wider efforts for a greener future.”
