A “major winter storm” is set to affect the Southern Ontario Starting on Wednesday and continuing through early Thursday.
Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said snow will start first in southwestern Ontario during the morning and spread across the region toronto area by noon.
“Conditions will quickly deteriorate as snow intensity increases during the afternoon,” Farnell said.

“Snowfall rates could reach 2 or 3 cm per hour and winds in excess of 60 km/h will occur near the Lake Ontario shore, creating near-zero visibility with blowing snow.”
He said the snow would be wet initially, which could reduce snow drift, but colder air would filter in as the day progressed.
“If you can work from home or leave early, Wednesday would be the day to do it,” Farnell said.
He said it would be the “biggest snowfall ever of the winter” in the Greater Toronto Area, with up to 25 cm expected by Thursday morning.
In areas of eastern Ontario and southern Quebec, from Ottawa to Montreal, up to 30 cm of snow is possible by Thursday.
Environment Canada placed a large portion of southern Ontario and parts of Quebec under a special weather statement ahead of the system. On Tuesday afternoon, some weather statements were replaced with snowfall warnings, which extended from the Windsor to Peterborough area.
The Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton are among the areas under snowfall warnings.
Heading into the weekend, another round of snow is expected across Southern Ontario on Sunday.
Farnell said cold air will be in place, which means the snow that falls will be light and friable.
That system can bring an extra 10 cm.
