A lot is happening in London, Ont. This Canada Day long weekend – London | Globalnews.ca

After two years of events was subdued by COVID-19 pandemic, Londoners will mark this Canada Day with a full display of FireworksFestivals and other celebrations.

980 CFPL has compiled some of the events happening in the city this Friday and throughout the weekend, including the downtown market and Canada Day Picnic.

Friday will also see the return of the Turtle Island Healing Walk to the downtown core to honor Indigenous children who have died and suffered abuse in Canada’s residential school system.

Fireworks

Fireworks will return victorious This Friday at Harris Park in London for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

The free fireworks display, presented by the City of London, will begin at 10 p.m. in the Park along the Thames.

City-bound visitors are encouraged to park in one of the municipal lots near Harris Park.

However, this is not the only fireworks display to be held in the city.

Residents of London’s Byron neighborhood will be treated to a demonstration organized by the Optimist Club of Byron.

West End Canada Day Event The Byron Optimist Sports Complex on Boulder Road at 5 p.m. with clowns, face painting, music and more going on. The light show will start in the evening itself.

The event is free, but on-campus parking will cost $5, organizers say.

For Londoners who want to set up their own fireworks in the backyard, the city is reminding residents that the current bylaw only allows fireworks on Victoria Day and Canada Day between dusk and 11 p.m.

The London Fire Department urges residents to follow all firework safety precautions.

Downtown Night Market

To kick off the long weekend of Canada Day, Londoners can check out its return Downtown Night Market With Dundas Place at the intersection of Dundas and Talbot Streets.

The free event, organized by the London Heritage Council, runs from 7pm to 11pm on Thursdays, featuring food and drink stands, local breweries and wineries, artisan vendors and live entertainment, including Ukwehuwe Connection, Street Garba, Lion Dancers, DJ Vikam. even more.

The event will return the following day for Canada Day, which will run from noon to 10 p.m., with even more live entertainment as well as a Kids Zone, leading to a fireworks display at nearby Harris Park .

Fanshawe Pioneer Village

in the northeast of the city, Fanshawe Pioneer Village Canada Day will be marked with a free event on July 1 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“This Canada Day, take a step back in time and enjoy the heritage music and fun!” Village website reads, “Try our traditional fair games, learn the dances of the past, and enjoy live music performances in the village!”

Shows, PG Tips, and the pairing of Amy Barton and Stephen Hollowitz are live performers to entertain those in need.

Elsewhere in the city, two Canada Day picnics will be held on Friday – one in the north of the city and the other in the west.

but a picnic will be going on grosvenor lodge Friday at around 11am on Western Road, organized by the Heritage London Foundation until 2:30pm.

The event page states that the event will feature family-friendly activities including crafts, cakes, lawn games, and live music featuring Alyssa Bart and Ben Heffernan.

Attendees are asked to bring a picnic lunch and a blanket or chairs.

Picnic will also run in the west direction at 11 am. Oakridge Optimist Parkrunning till 2 pm

The Oakridge event will include a tony community barbecue, live music from Newport Electric and Ken Eastwood, a free swim in the pool from noon to 2 p.m., and more, the event’s Facebook page says.

First responder vehicles, including firetrucks, will also be on hand, according to the page.

Attendees are asked to bring picnics, blankets and swimsuits.

Before the fireworks at Harris Park, why not have a ballgame at London’s historic Labatt Park?

IBL champions London Majors are set to take on Barry Boycotts on home turf, with the first pitch set for 7:35 p.m. Major officials say attendees will be able to sit on the ground watching nearby fireworks as they go through the night. Will leave around 10 o’clock.

The Majors will travel to Wayland for a game against the Jackfish on Saturday night, but return to Labatt Park on Sunday afternoon for a match-up against the Brantford Red Sox.

Tickets for both home games can be purchased Via London Major Online Store$12 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth.

Turtle Island Healing Walk

This Canada Day, like last year, is being seen in a different light after the discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves in former residential schools in Kamloops, BC and elsewhere in Canada.

the last summer Saw the first Turtle Island Healing Walk A walk that will return this year, through the city’s downtown core, to honor Indigenous children who have been killed and abused in the residential school system.

“Last year, we hosted the first #TurtleIslandHealingWalk. This comes at a time when all the indigenous communities in Turtle Island and beyond are mourning as our missing children are being found and sent to the Spirit World,” a post on the event facebook page reads.

“This day is a day of honour. This walk is a walk to heal. And our future is a future of hope. We may not know their names but together we raise them up. On July 1, we walk for them. ,

More than 10,000 people gathered in London, Ont. To honor the victims of residential schools

Participants will gather at 9:30 a.m. at the northwest corner of Victoria Park, Richmond Street and Central Avenue, with walking commencing at 10:15 a.m.

The walk will travel north to Richmond Street, east to Oxford Street, south to Colborne Street and west to Dufferin Avenue.

Last year more than 10,000 people gathered and took part in the walk.

  • latin marketHeld every Sunday until the end of September, this weekend continues outside Covent Garden Market.
  • Springbank Gardens Concert Series Sunday began with entertainment from the Nevin Campbell and Ken Foster Quartet. The series will run every Sunday afternoon through the summer.

London Transit Service

According to the London Transit Commission, on Fridays the bus service will run on Sundays/holidays.

The Commission notes that the following service changes will occur for events in Downtown this week and over the weekend:

  • Thursday: 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 19, and 20 will take rounds.
  • Friday: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20 will take rounds.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 19, 20 will take rounds.
