‘A group that feels like home’: GR women’s craft group continues 40 years

Grand Rapids, Mich. – A group of West Michigan women who first began gathering for coffee and crafting back in December 1981 continued to meet for 40 years, all but one another in good times and bad Be dependent.

“It started with just two girls who came together for a coffee,” said Jill Campbell, one of the seven women.

“It was 40 a few years ago, so we were all with the kids, and it was going to be a night of hanging out and being with the women and getting away from the kids and stuff.”

For a long time his nights focused on crafts – making gifts for his children’s teachers in earlier years, and items made from wine corks in more recent years.

“We all have kids, they went to college, we went through a lot of crises, and we bonded like sisters,” Campbell told Fox 17.

Tragically, he lost two members of his craft group to the pandemic, one of them to COVID.

The group has touched almost all aspects of his life.

“It’s just a group that feels like home,” Lynn Deputula said.

Another member, Terry Cerzant, said, “These women are my heroes, because they’ve gone through certain things in their lives, the sadness, and they’re just wonderful… and the joy that we all bring to each other. very.”

Whatever they are doing, they are always there for each other.

Laughing Suzy Meyer said, “I cherish memories… not so much my craft.”

And they don’t plan to stop meeting any time soon. Campbell estimates that he has had at least 400 Craft Club meetings over the years.

“We’ve made a lot of things… some of them are good, some of them not that good, but almost always funCampbell said.
