Overall, 56 percent of respondents said it was very or somewhat likely that Putin could use nuclear weapons in conflict.

On that question, there wasn’t a huge divide between Republican and Democratic, and liberal and conservative responses, with 59 percent of Democrats agreeing, compared to 53 percent of Republicans. and 59 percent conservative versus 57 percent liberal.

The group that said it was most likely that Putin would use nuclear weapons was Democrats, followed by conservatives.

50 percent of conservatives strongly agreed, representing the largest group to hold this view.

Still, 21 percent of Democrats said they agreed strongly, with another 25 percent of Democrats saying they agreed somewhat.

Many Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have publicly drawn links between Afghanistan’s withdrawal and Putin’s decision to invade.

Overall, 77 percent of Americans believed that the US military would be dragged into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 34 percent believed strongly and another 43 percent said they agreed somewhat. Huh.

Conservatives and Republicans were more likely to believe that the US military might be involved.
