514 new Kovid cases in Mumbai, highest since mid-July

Record 514 new in Mumbai on Wednesday COVID-19 Cases, highest since mid-July this year.

This is the second time this month that the number of new cases has crossed the 500-mark. On 8 September, 514 new cases of Kovid-19 were registered in the city.

With 29,886 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the daily positivity rate stood at 1.71 per cent. Since September 1, it has gone up to over 1 per cent. The daily positivity rate was 1.2 per cent last week.

Also, since the start of the 10-day Ganpati festival on September 10, the daily test count has come down to 30,000.

The BMC has said that it is on high alert in view of the spurt in cases and plans to increase the number of daily tests conducted after the festival. It has directed ward officials to increase the number of daily tests. It aims to conduct around 60,000 tests per day, including rapid antigen testing.

On August 20, the BMC conducted the highest number of tests in a day – 56,566. On August 17, the number of daily cases fell to its lowest level this year (196).

Since August 25, the number has consistently crossed the 300-mark, crossing 400 on September 1 when the city reported 416 new cases, BMC data showed.

With this, the number of active cases in the city has gone up to 4,602. The number of active cases has increased by 727 in the last seven days.

The figure rose from 2,834 on 15 August to 3,771 on 6 September. Currently, there is no active containment zone in the city, while 37 buildings have been sealed.
