4-year-old girl, woman killed in Flint House explosion

A 4-year-old girl and a 55-year-old woman were killed in an explosion in Flint on Monday night. Two others are in hospital, but their condition is unknown.

At 9:37 p.m. on November 22, Consumer Energy received a notification of a home explosion in the 3900 block of Hogarth Avenue.






The crew initially found one person dead at the scene, who has been identified as a 55-year-old woman. A 4-year-old girl was reported missing, but staff discovered her remains on Tuesday.

Two others were admitted to the hospital, but their condition is currently unknown.

Flint Fire chief Ray Barton believes the two injured people are the parents of a 4-year-old.

According to Consumer Energy, natural gas and electricity services were cut off in three of the homes that were destroyed. According to the utility company, service was also stopped to other homes in the vicinity that were damaged.

Consumer Energy said it found no evidence of a natural gas leak after surveying several neighboring homes. Officials are still using the scene to determine if the area is safe for residents to get goods out of their homes. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated.

Consumer Energy said it is working closely with local public safety officials to assist with the investigation.

The United Way of Genesee County has set up a fund to help families affected by the explosion. It donated the first $5,000. can be donated to United Way website.

The Red Cross said it was providing assistance to five residents affected by the blast. The organization has also set up a reception and warming center with snacks for those affected at St. Pius X, located at 3139 Hogarth Ave. Affected residents can also reach out to the Red Cross 1-800-Red Cross,
