4 in custody, 1 more FIR against fugitive Shrikant Tyagi, BJP keeps distance in protest against attack – Bharat Times Hindi News

Noida Police on Saturday said they have detained four close aides of an absconding politician accused of assaulting a woman, seized two vehicles and registered another FIR against him. The action came even as the BJP continued to distance itself from Shrikant Tyagi, who identified himself as the national executive member of the party’s Kisan Morcha and national coordinator of its youth committee.

Tyagi was booked under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force to any woman, intention to insult or likely to outrage her modesty) on Friday for a co-resident of his residence. A case was registered on a dispute with Society in Sector 93B. The woman objected to Srikant Tyagi planting some trees, citing violation of rules, which she claimed was within her right to do so.

“We had reacted soon after the episode came to light and accordingly an FIR was registered. Today, during further investigation of the case, four close aides of Shrikant Tyagi were detained for questioning,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ranvijay Singh. The police team that went to the spot found three vehicles of Tyagi there. Two of them were found in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act and were confiscated. The third vehicle, the Toyota Fortuner, had the official emblem of the Uttar Pradesh government but was in violation of regulations.

A separate FIR has been registered for misuse of the government emblem,” Singh said. Police teams are continuously raiding Tyagi’s possible hideout and making all efforts to ensure his arrest at the earliest, the official said. He also clarified that no police protection was provided to Tyagi by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate. Several videos from Friday’s episode surfaced on social media, purportedly showing Tyagi using abusive words and assaulting the woman. She also abused her husband and made derogatory remarks about him.

Meanwhile, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma and BJP’s Noida unit chief Mahesh Gupta visited the Grand Omaxe Society and met the local residents. He told the residents that Tyagi was not a member of the BJP and assured his party’s support. In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party pulled up the BJP over the issue. At a press conference in Noida, Congress’ Pankhuri Pathak shared pictures of Tyagi with senior BJP leaders as she hit out at the party for its “anti-women” attitude.

He also accused the BJP of “lying with his teeth” about Tyagi’s association with the party. “Today BJP is saying that Shrikant Tyagi is not a member of the party. But he was roaming with such security staff, which is not even with MLAs or ministers. His clout in this government is conceivable,” said Pathak. AAP’s Gautam Buddh Nagar unit chief Bhupendra Jadaun also shared photographs of Tyagi with senior BJP leaders and other documents and claimed that he has links with the saffron party.

He also accused the BJP of lying, spreading misinformation to protect its member. Tyagi had told PTI on Friday evening that the woman’s claims were false and that she first instigated the assault. He had also claimed that the matter was getting worse because of his affiliation with the BJP.
