DUBAI: Four billion men have been arrested in the UAE for attempting to smuggle more than 1.1 million Captagon pills with an estimated street value of 58 million Emirati dirhams ($15.8 million).

Dubai Police said on Thursday that a team from its anti-narcotics department made the arrests after monitoring suspects in an operation codenamed 66.

Men under surveillance had tried to snatch 1,160,500 tablets inside plastic containers that looked like lemons in the country and kept them in a refrigerated container.

Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marie, said the force was committed to “combating organized crime and protecting against all harm to society, especially drugs”.

Major General Khaleel Ibrahim Al-Mansoori, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Criminal Investigation Affairs, said all secret information was taken seriously, especially as they were in the interest of protecting the safety and security of the UAE.
