3 Long Island officials treated for inhaling smoke after saving family dog ​​from fire

Deer Park, Long Island (WABC) – Three Suffolk County police officers rushed to a burning home early Monday to rescue a trapped dog.

Officers answered a 911 call and found thick black smoke billowing from the home on Homer Avenue just before noon.

A resident told officers that a dog and a cat were still inside.

Officers Zachary Goldbach, Joaquin Castillo and Justin Ochia found the dog reunited with his family.

He continued to search for the cat who was able to safely leave the house on his own.

Officers were treated for inhaling the fumes, but are said to be doing fine.

No other injuries were reported.

Arson detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
