3 killed in shooting at Maryland manufacturing facility, officials say

Three people were killed in a shooting at a manufacturing plant in Smithsburg, Maryland, on Thursday afternoon.

A law enforcement official who confirmed the death also said that four others were injured in the attack.

A Maryland state soldier suffered minor injuries in a confrontation with the suspect, who was captured and is alive, the official said.

NBC Washington Captured imagery of the spot where soldiers and suspects clashed – a road lined with a Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe and an unmarked police SUV.

The road was littered with proof markers.

Governor Larry Hogan told a quick news conference that the suspect was followed by a vehicle and that a soldier who faced the alleged shooter was shot and returned.

“The suspect is no longer a threat to the community,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was responding to the scene to help with the investigation.

The attack area is about eight miles east of Camp David, the president’s retreat. There is no indication that the violence was related to the retreat.

The attack took place around 2:30 pm and was initially believed to be an active shooter situation. NBC Washington reports The incident took place at a manufacturing facility.

The exact location of the injured was not available.
