200 BJP leaders, workers including former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das booked for violating Kovid norms

The police on Friday registered an FIR against 200 BJP leaders and workers, including former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, for allegedly violating the COVID-19 norms during a rally in East Singhbhum district.

The FIR was registered at Sakchi police station hours after saffron party workers took out a march here on Thursday to protest against the alleged security violation during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, on a complaint by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee city manager Joy Gudiya. Sakchi police station in-charge (caretaker) Parvez Alam said, “An FIR was registered against 200 BJP leaders and workers, including former CM and Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Baran Mahto. The case was registered under the Disaster Management Act.”

Gudiya alleged that the participants of the rally, led by Das and Mahto, did not follow health safety protocols and wear face masks amid a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state.

Jharkhand reported 3,704 fresh cases on Thursday, taking the caseload in the state to 3,65,222, a health department bulletin said.

He returned from Punjab without attending any event, including a rally, after the prime minister’s convoy was caught in a “major security lapse” at the flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur on Wednesday.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday alleged that Modi’s “gimmick” was a “threat to his life” aimed at “toppling a democratically elected government” in the state.

He claimed that there was no security lapse during Modi’s visit to the state.

Channi said that he had personally inspected the necessary arrangements for the yatra. — PTI
