2 overdose deaths in Swift Current in past 3 days, fentanyl suspected: RCMP | globalnews.ca

RCMP is warning the public about the presence of dangerous illegal drugs in Swift Current and surrounding areas.

According to a press release, RCMP officers responded to two fatal overdoses involving the suspect fentanyl in the last three days.

The 30 year old man died on 29th December, 2022 and the 27 year old man died on 31st December, 2022.

Both the persons did not consume the same substance. One substance is green powder; The second substance consists of clear or white crystals.

The two substances did not look like regular fentanyl and may not have been sold as fentanyl. However, police field testing of both substances revealed the presence of fentanyl.

The Swift Current RCMP is advising people who use illegal drugs to take special precautions when using:

  • Never use alone
  • Tell someone you trust about your plans to use,
  • Always carry a naloxone kit with you. available free of charge many places in the province,
  • Call 911 if you suspect an overdose is occurring.
