The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing mass killings during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, on Wednesday arrested five more people for allegedly setting fire to a building in which three people were burnt down, a senior official said. Told.

With the fresh arrests from Nirala Nagar in Kidwai Nagar, the SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Balendu Bhushan Singh has arrested 27 people in connection with the violence that followed the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. by his Sikh bodyguards in Delhi.

DIG Singh informed that the SIT constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government on May 27, 2019 on the orders of the Supreme Court has been probing anti-Sikh riots cases for the last three years and efforts are on to nab more suspects. PTI.

The team identified 96 people as prime suspects, of whom 23 have died. The official said details of over three dozen suspects were collected and this helped the SIT nab 27 people.

The five arrested have been identified as Anil Kumar Pandey (61), Sriram alias Baggad (65), Mustakim (70), Abdul Waheed (61) and Irshad Khan (60), residents of Kidwai Nagar.

He said he was charged under Indian Penal Code sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons), 396 (robbery with murder) and 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) That is, they said they were sent to jail.

The DIG said that in 1984, five men along with dozens of others had allegedly reached Nirala Nagar in two buses to set the property of Gurudayal Singh on fire.

Twelve families were living as tenants in Gurudayal’s property and three people were burnt alive during the attack. He said one of the rioters, identified as Rajesh Gupta, was also shot during the cross-firing.

Singh said, “We are investigating 11 cases after identifying 96 prime suspects from witnesses settled in Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. The SIT also found that 23 (people) have already died.” Huh.”

The action against the accused began on June 15 when the SIT arrested four main accused from Ghatampur, followed by two arrests on June 21 and five more on June 23.

On 6 July, the SIT had arrested four people, including two brothers, followed by four more arrests the next day. By July 14, 22 people had been apprehended.
