14.66% voter turnout in first phase of PU Senate elections

The first phase of voting for the Senate’s registered graduate constituency saw a turnout of 14.66 percent. Polling was held at 211 polling booths out of 272 booths spread across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and the state. Chandigarh.

Vikram Nayar, Registrar and Returning Officer of Senate Elections, said the total number of registered voters at these polling stations was 2,87,997 and out of these 42,228 voters came forward to cast their votes. The voting percentage is 14.66%.

Polling was conducted smoothly at all the polling stations. 83-year-old Chittaranjan Singh was also among those who came to vote. Voting took place at the booths located in Muktsar district with the highest polling percentage of 25.60. The lowest turnout in Delhi was just 1.69 per cent. 77 voters cast their votes out of a total of 4,565. Chandigarh recorded 8.65 per cent polling and 4,414 voters out of 47,548 cast their votes.

The Strong Room of Votes is located in Panjab University under the strict supervision of Chandigarh Police and PU Security. The polling was 17.25 percent in Panchkula, 18.52 percent in Una district, 11.54 percent in Solan district. Voter turnout was up to 9.90 per cent in Sirmaur. Ropar recorded 20.41 per cent while Ambala recorded 12.02 per cent voting.
