12,847 new COVID cases reported in India, 14 more deaths; Active cases rise by over 4,800

India recorded an increase of 12,847 coronavirus infections in a single day, taking the total number of cases to 4,32,70,577, while active cases also increased by over 4,800, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday.

The data updated at 8 am also recorded 14 fresh deaths, taking the total death toll to 5,24,817.

The health ministry said active cases now account for 0.15 per cent of the total infections, while the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.64 per cent. The case fatality rate was 1.21 percent.

The active COVID-19 caseload has registered an increase of 4,848 cases in a 24-hour period.

According to the health ministry, the daily positivity rate was 2.47 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 2.41 percent. The number of people cured of the disease increased to 4,26,82,697.

On the vaccination front, according to the ministry, a total of 195.84 COVID vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 2020. It crossed the four crore mark on January 25 this year.
