Workers injured in fire at Kuwait refinery, production not affected

The state refiner said the Atmospheric Residue Desulfurization (ARDS) unit where the fire broke out has been isolated and the fire has been brought under control.

The KNPC said several workers employed by a contractor suffered minor injuries and smoke was coming out. Some were treated on the spot while others were taken to hospital and their condition is stable.

“Refinery operations and export operations have not been affected and local marketing operations and supplies to the Ministry of Power and Water remain unaffected,” KNPC said on its Twitter account.

Last month, KNPC said it began full operation of a project to expand refining capacity and produce fuels that generate lower emissions, including expanding capacity to 346,000 barrels per day at the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery .
