What happened when young Matthew Perry had a fight with Canadian PM Justin Trudeau at school – India Times Hindi News

Actor Matthew Perry rose to global fame for playing Chandler Bing in the popular television sitcom Friends. But did you know that Perry had a fight with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when they were schoolmates. Strange as it may sound, the actor and Prime Minister of Canada attended the same public school called Rockcliffe Park Elementary in Ottawa. During his previous appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s The Tonight Show, Matthew Perry made the humble revelation of his fight with PM Trudeau. This was purely out of jealousy and Perry was not proud to be involved in the fight.

Notably, Matthew Perry almost forgot about the incident, it wasn’t until years ago when a friend of his, Chris Murray, reminded him of the fight. According to Perry, he was in fifth grade when he “beaten” Trudeau for excelling in a sport that both couldn’t. The Friends actor was a few years senior to the Canadian PM. He said, “My friend Chris Murray, who was in fifth grade in Canada, reminded me that we actually beat Justin Trudeau. I don’t know (why). We both beat him up. I think He excelled at the game we weren’t, so it was pure jealousy.

Recalling the incident, Perry said that he was not proud of the incident and called himself a ‘stupid kid’. Feeling terrified, the actor said that he never spoke to the Canadian PM about the fight. However, due to his witty nature he added a funny anecdote to their fight and said that Trudeau cited an important reason for becoming the Prime Minister of the country. “But I think I had an important role to play in reaching such great heights and becoming the Prime Minister. I think he said, you know, ‘I’m going to rise above this and I’m going to be prime minister,'” Perry joked.

After the episode aired online, the Canadian PM took to Twitter to react to Perry’s revelations. He said, “I’m thinking it some, you know who doesn’t want to punch Chandler? How about a rematch, Matthew Perry?” When the tweet caught the actor’s attention he turned down the offer and joked, “I think I’ll pass on your request for a rematch sort of thing (given that you currently have an army).

Justin Trudeau became the 23rd Prime Minister of Canada in 2015 and has been in power ever since.
