TMC asks MP Shishir Adhikari why he participated in Vice Presidential election – India Times Hindi News

Trinamool Congress MP and Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay has written to fellow MP Shishir Adhikari asking him to explain why he participated in the vice-presidential election when the party had decided to stay away from the process. The Mamata Banerjee-led party had decided not to be a part of the vice presidential election, alleging that the joint opposition candidate was chosen without proper consultation.

“Please refer to my letter dated 4th August 2022 informing you that our Parliamentary Party members from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will abstain from voting in the Vice-Presidential election on Saturday, 6th August 2022. We have noted that You have voted. Your vote in the vice-presidential election held today,” Bandyopadhyay said.

No party can use a whip in the Vice Presidential election. Therefore, the Trinamool Congress will not be able to take action in the Lok Sabha against Sisir Adhikari for flouting the party’s instructions. National Democratic Alliance’s Vice Presidential candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected as the 14th Vice President of India On Saturday, he defeated the opposition candidate Margaret Alva.

Former Governor of West Bengal, Dhankhar secured 528 votes as against Alva’s 182. His margin of victory was the highest since 1997. Sishir Adhikari’s ties with the Trinamool Congress have weakened and Bandyopadhyay has demanded his dismissal, citing his “defection” in the BJP.

Bandyopadhyay has repeatedly lodged complaints against the officer with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, asking him to produce evidence in support of his claims. The matter was referred to the Committee of Privileges after the TMC leader filed a complaint under the Anti-Defection Act.

Bandyopadhyay had alleged that the officer had joined the BJP in March last year during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Adhikari has been elected thrice as an MP from the Contai seat on a TMC ticket since 2009. He had come to Delhi to cast his vote during the presidential election.
