Hyderabad, 25 November

A man allegedly committed suicide after losing money in cryptocurrency in Telangana’s Suryapet town, police said.

Khammam resident G. Ramalingaswamy (36) allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a lodge in Suryapet town.

Police recovered his body from a room late Wednesday night after the lodge owner lodged a complaint that the occupant of the room was not responding to the knock on the door.

Police shifted the body for post-mortem. A police officer said that the man may have taken the extreme step on Tuesday.

Police have also recovered a suicide note left by a man for his wife.

According to family members, the man was investing in online trading on a cryptocurrency app with two friends. He initially invested 10 lakh rupees and after getting some good returns increased the investment but suffered huge losses. He had reportedly suffered a loss of Rs 70 lakh, which he raised through loans.

He alleged that the people who had lent him money started pressurizing him to repay. They had snatched his car and got him to sign some cheques.

Losing money and unable to bear the alleged harassment by lenders, Ramalingaswamy went to Suryapet town on November 22 and was staying in a lodge.
