Teenagers from Pune shine in National Roller Skating Championships

In the recently held 59th Roller Skating National Championship in Mohali, the skaters of Team ISKATE from Solaris Sports Club, Pune won many medals.

Darsh Shinde won gold in inline freestyle classic slalom event in boys’ category 14-17 and bronze in inline speed skating. In the girls category 14-17, Kothrud resident Kuhu Khandekar won silver medal in the inline freestyle classic slalom event.

The young skaters attribute their feat to the support and rigorous coaching of their parents. “We train for three hours a day, six days a week. Our coaches plan and prepare our training plan for the year ahead of time, and we go through systematic training accordingly. The training I have received has played a vital role in helping me at the national level.” Khandekar said.

Teenagers are now training to show their skills in future championships. “I am looking forward to the Asian Indoor Games to be held in Thailand in March. Later in the year, I will try to win medals in district and state championships,” Shinde said.

Both the medal winners are training under the guidance of coaches Shripad Shinde and Preeti Ingle. “They both put in a lot of time and effort and trained carefully to do well in the championship. It is indeed a very proud moment to see him succeed at the national level,” said Shinde.
