Racing boss Peter Velandis attacks Bruno Mars concert at Sydney Football Stadium over Everest clash

League and racing boss Peter V’Landis is facing a furious backlash over his demand that Bruno Mars planet The concert has been canceled to avoid a clash with Everest horse racing.

Racing NSW The Chief Executive took off on the NSW state government on Friday over their plans to open the new Uptown funk singer Sydney football stadium.

The second night of the two planned concerts coincides with the world’s richest turf horserace running at the nearby Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, 15 October.

But Mr V’Landis’ fury at the two events on the same day was angered by Sydneysiders, and NSW Premier Dom Perrot called the rugby league boss’s comments ‘ridiculous’.

“If Sydney can’t host two events at the same time, we might as well be a country backwater… seriously,” Perrott said during an official visit to Tokyo on Friday.

‘If you can’t do that, we can even pack our bags and go home. We are a global city.

The NSW government is set to pay $10 million to bring the American star to Sydney, and says the two shows will pack 50,000 new stadiums each night and $16 million into the city’s coffers.

But Mr Velandis fears that having both events on the same day will end up crowding out for his tab-sponsored showpiece Everest Race, which has a $15 million prize pool and is the highlight of the Spring Racing Carnival in NSW.

“It’s incomprehensible,” he told 2GB’s Ben Fordham. ‘No one would be so stupid.

‘We work very hard to bring an event to Sydney. This is a domestic incident. Why would you undermine it by putting on a one-time pop concert down the street?

‘It will be traffic chaos. It will take away the shine from both the events. It has no commercial meaning. They could have taken it on another weekend which they could take for themselves.’

He continued: ‘You’ll never see the Victorian government organize a pop concert on the days of the AFL Grand Finals.’

The row comes four years after Mr V’Landis and radio host Alan Jones were forced to make a shameful policy U-turn for taunting the NSW government for advertising the race to Everest on the sails of the Sydney Opera House .

But NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres – who says he has not yet officially signed the Mars deal – was refusing to back down this time in the face of criticism from Mr Velandis.

“Global cities can do many things at the same time,” he said. ‘The New York Yankees Won’t Cancel Because Billy Joel Was Playing Madison Square Garden, Will It?

‘We want the best of Australia to showcase the best of the best in the best of the city.’

The sports boss was also criticized on social media by Sydneysiders, accusing Mr V’Landis of trying to control the entire city, as well as racing and rugby league.

‘Why does this man think he runs the kingdom?’ Made a post on Facebook. ‘He’s no expert, just a loud mouth with a lot of power.’

‘He’s trying to hold the kingdom for ransom,’ another added.

One Twitter user warned the premier: ‘I think Perrot sometimes forgets who runs New South Wales – Peter V’Landis.’

Most of the online comments questioned why there was a problem.

One tweeted, ‘I’m pretty sure the people who go to Bruno Mars aren’t the same people who go to horse racing.’

‘And the colorful racing identity V’landys is kidding himself if he thinks the event will never cease – it happens all the time.’

Another posted: ‘This guy is moaning again! , Quite a different market… Many or most people do not give a double opinion about horse racing.’

One pointed out how easy it would be to go to both, with the race taking place in the afternoon and the concert in the evening.

‘Shock horror, some may decide to make it one day and go to both! Where’s the big deal here? People can easily use public transport to avoid parking problem…’

Another posted: ‘V’Landys is confused if they think Everest can be compared to AFL Grand Final.

‘Worrying about the Bruno Mars concert proves how meaningless the event is.’

Another posted a Simpsons meme of Homer, in which a reindeer was riding a donkey with Mr V’Landis’ head smashing into a cake and captioned: ‘The local man ruins everything. ‘

‘The rise of V’Landys has been one of the worst things for NSW,’ one added.

But Mr Wellandis’s Uptown Funk singer’s concerts were backed by NSW Labor leader Chris Minnes for moving the concerts from the date of the confrontation.

“It’s good to have a Bruno Mars concert, it’s great to open the stadium,” he said on Friday. ,[But] Why should it all be on the same day?

‘This is an example of the government not looking at the event calendar and thinking about how you can create a festival-like atmosphere for long periods of time instead of just dodging on a single night.

‘It’s been an occasion to have it on Friday night, Everest on Saturday and people have the option of joining either or neither or one or the other.

‘Fix your coordination, let’s substitute on the table and do these things right.’
