Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper broke his left thumb on Saturday night against the San Diego Padres while trying to avoid an up-and-in pitch from Blake Snell.
Harper failed in his attempt To crack the pitch.
“I wish it hit my face. I don’t break bones in my face. I feel like I can take a 98 (mph) to the face, but not a 97 to the thumb. Yeah, I was in safety mode A little bit trying to raise my hand and not let it hit me again.” Reigning National League MVP Said after the game.
“It’s just a crapshoot. I’m really upset.”

Snell was clearly upset by what had happened. The two shouted at each other as Harper left the field, but the outfielder explained what had happened between him and the pitcher.
“It wasn’t hot at all. It was just a moment and a crappy situation,” Harper said. “I’ve been playing against Blake since we were 10, 11 years old, so I know there was no malice behind it. The pitch inside is part of the game. He’s a great player and a great human being. Nice. I wish him the best of luck, and I told him to keep throwing the fastball inside because it makes that slider look really good.”
Snell texts Harper And that the two are on good terms and have cleared the air.
“Obviously, I found it terrible to kill him. I don’t do that and he knows,” Snell said. “We’ve talked, we’ve handled it. He plays with a lot of passion, and I can understand why he would be upset. I’m as upset as he is – I hit him. … I just hope That he will recover quickly and get back out there and continue to compete.”
Harper is likely to move on to a longer IL tenure.
