German club Leipzig have succeeded in renewing striker Christopher Nkunko’s contract for two years until 2026, ending controversy over the French international’s departure from the Red Bull fold in the transfer market this summer.
German reports have revealed that the French international’s contract, which was one of Paris Saint-Germain’s interests, to return him to the Princess Garden, includes a 60 million euro penalty clause, which could be activated next year.
Nkunko, who moved to RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, scoring 47 goals and providing 46 assists in 137 games, was named Bundesliga Player of the Year for the previous season by first-class players.
“We are proud and delighted to have one of the best players in the world right now,” said Technical Director Christopher Wivel.
“Nkoko has grown into one of the best Bundesliga players in Leipzig, and has also become a key player in the French national team. This success story is something we want to continue writing together.”
After extending the contract with Red Bull, Nkunko said: “I am delighted that I will continue to wear the Leipzig shirt after the great achievement of winning the German Cup. Over here”.
