Cellphone data shows final movements of Alex Murdaugh’s wife before murder – live

Alex Murdoff: Who is the disgraced lawyer and why is he being sued?

Alex MurdoffTuesday at the Colton County Courthouse in Walterboro remained the focus of words following the murders of his wife and son, South Carolina,

In his second interview with law enforcement officers – three days after he was charged with the murders of Maggie, 52, and Paul, 22, at the family property in Islandton – he appeared to say: “I hurt him so bad” in reference to his son.

While prosecutors tried to suggest he slipped away, others cast doubt, with some believing he says: “They got him so bad.”

The jury was also presented with a description of the Murdaugh sons’ guns, along with more information about the different types of ammunition matching the property used in the murders. Amazingly, twice prosecutors have cited credit card statements found in the trash with purchases from Gucci Circle.

A detailed analysis of Magee’s cellphone data revealed some of the most intriguing evidence from the day, with prosecutors trying to determine the exact time of death from the phone’s event log.

The trial is only one of Mr. Murdaugh’s problems, which include a failed hitman plot, multimillion-dollar fraud schemes, and unexplained deaths.

Now let’s move on to the steps recorded by the iPhone’s Health app.

Lt. Dove points out that this is not the most accurate data, but provides an indication of movement. Maggie’s phone moved 38 steps from 8.17 pm after the phone was unplugged.

Another 43 steps were recorded between 8.30 pm and 8.33 pm.

Another 59 steps were taken between 8.53 pm and 8.55 pm, during which the orientation changed and the camera turned on for a second but the phone did not unlock.

No further steps were recorded until the next day when the phone was collected.

There is an interval of 22 minutes before the next event log at 9.31pm when the display briefly flashed on and off – presumably the phone was moved.

Rogan Gibson’s unread text arrives at 9.34 p.m.

At 9.47 pm Alex texted “Call me babe.” That lesson goes unread.

There was no further activity.

At 9.04 pm Maggie’s phone receives the first call from Alex’s phone which goes unanswered.

At 9.06 pm there is an orientation change to portrait indicating that the phone was in one’s hand. Two seconds later, another call from Alex’s phone comes in on her phone and goes unanswered.

After that there are no orientation changes.

About 30 seconds later, a third phone call comes in from Alex.

The screen turns on and off at 9.07 pm.

At 9.08 pm, Alex texted that he was going to see his mother. The text is never read.

There is a gap of 2 minutes and seven seconds between Alex’s call and his text.

The phone remained locked between 8.49 pm on June 7, 2021 and 1.10 pm the next day.

The display went off at 8.53 pm.

The orientation changes from landscape to portrait and back again afterwards. There are corresponding registers for turning on and off the screen.

The camera activates for a second at 8.54 pm, possibly indicating an attempt to unlock the phone with facial recognition.

There is no record of what the camera shows, but if it had been Maggie’s face it would have unlocked. Although it can denote anything.

Lt. Gove discusses the “event history” on the phone – its location data, whether it was locked or unlocked, screen orientation, etc.

The phone was unplugged from the charger at 8.17 pm.

At 8.30 pm, she went to the fashion website “Poshmark”.

Screen lit up at 8.49 pm. This can either be a notification or someone moving the phone, for example picking it up. The data shows that the phone was unlocked and then locked. It was at this time that Lin Jie’s text message arrived and was read. We learn that the message arrived at 8.41 pm.

At 8 p.m. the phone registers a change in orientation. Lt. Dove says the orientation changes when a person picks up the phone or intentionally rotates it. When asked if a change in orientation can be registered by dropping the phone, he says that nothing will be registered as long as the screen is not on.

Next Lt. Gove is asked to look through Alex’s text messages.

The first one is at 9.04 pm and it is unread.

State asks Lt Gove to confirm no messages on Maggie’s phone were read after 8.49pm on 7 June 2021.

Let Dove clarifies that the data doesn’t show who reads texts, answers calls, or touches the screen, but you do need to know the passcode or to use the phone for anything other than emergency calls. Facial recognition technology will have to be used.

The prosecution now turns to Maggie’s text messages. The special thing is that this report also tells whether the message has been read or not.

It shows chat as well as text messages, but the texts will be in chronological order in the report.

A group message was received at 8:31 p.m. between John Marvin, Maggie, Alex and other family members. About 16 seconds after being sent the message read at 8.31pm and John Marvin is saying he plans to visit his father (who was seriously ill in hospital) and is asking if anyone else is with him Would like to join

The next text is from Lin Jie (Alex’s sister) which is read out at 8.49 pm. He says that he is in the court for the whole week.

Another message comes in at 9:34 p.m., this time from Rogan Gibson. It remains unread.

Maggie called “Barbara” at 7.50 pm that evening for 2 minutes 46 seconds.

This was the last call Maggie made or received.

Alex called at 9.04 pm and twice at 9.06 pm and neither call was answered.

Lt. Dove confirms that he also checked Alex’s phone.

Alex called Maggie’s phone again at 9.45 pm and the last time at 10.3 pm. They too were not answered.

Alex’s call to 911 came in at 10:60 p.m.
