Agneepath scheme ‘directionless’, standing with Congress candidates: Sonia Gandhi

‘ AgainstAgnipathRecruitment scheme for armed forces flared up across the country, Congress President Sonia Gandhi On Saturday termed the plan “totally directionless” and insisted that his party would work to back it.

Gandhi, who is being treated at a Delhi hospital for lower respiratory tract infection and post-Covid symptoms, highlighted that despite the response, it is sad that the government has listened to the voices of the people. Ignored and decided to implement the plan.

Amid violent protests in several states, Gandhi also appealed to the people to join the peaceful and non-violent protests.

The protesters are demanding restoration of the previous recruitment system.

On Tuesday, the government unveiled Agneepath, a “major defense policy reform” for the recruitment of soldiers, sailors and airmen in the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Under this, the personnel will be recruited on short term contract basis and they will be called Agniveer.

The scheme, which comes into effect immediately, the government said, will create “a more youthful and technically proficient war-fighting force by ensuring a fine balance between young and experienced personnel” in the armed forces.
