Authorities said responding police opened fire on a woman at Dallas Love Field on Monday before shooting her.
Dallas Police Chief Edgardo “Eddie” Garcia told reporters that the unidentified 37-year-old was dropped off at 10:59 a.m. CDT, walked into the terminal and burrowed into a restroom near a Southwest Airlines ticket counter.
She reportedly came out in different clothes, possibly a hoodie, and opened fire.
“She produces a handgun and starts firing,” Garcia said. “At this point, we don’t know exactly where the person was aiming. What we see most now is that she was aiming at the ceiling.”
An officer at the scene shot the woman in the “lower extremities” and she was Was taken to Parkland Hospital, Garcia.
Police Chief Max Geron of nearby Rockwall, Texas, tweeted that he and his family were at Love Field when the incident came to light.
“Just pulled out of Love Field after a candid shoot,” Geron wrote, “The family is safe. The TSA has done a great job.”
Love Field is the smaller of the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s two airports, but is a favorite of residents for its convenience, just 10 miles from downtown Dallas.
