‘Will follow prohibition on duty’: Bihar DGP administered oath to police force

Few days after the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar Bihar DGP SK Singhal on Saturday asked for strict action against policemen who violated prohibition at Patna Police Headquarters.

In a video of the oath, Singhal calls on the police force to follow the liquor ban and not consume alcohol, whether they are on duty or not.

Members of the police force are seen raising their hands not to consume alcohol all the time. The force must do whatever it takes to enforce prohibition in the state, the oath reads.

The Nitish Kumar government had banned the manufacture, trade, storage, transport, sale and consumption of liquor in the state on 5 April 2016.

There have been many cases of action against policemen who drink alcohol. Departmental action has already been taken against 206 policemen, including two inspectors and 30 sub-inspectors, who failed to enforce prohibition in their respective areas.

An official said that on November 17, Nitish Kumar had presided over a high-level meeting with officials on issues related to prohibition in the state and asked them to take strict action against policemen and excise department employees who themselves practiced prohibition. was violated.

Recently, this meeting was called after 47 people died due to consumption of spurious liquor in the state.
