Chandigarh, January 15
Virat Kohli on Saturday announced that he is stepping down as the Test captain of the Indian cricket team. “At some stage everything has to come to a halt and it is now for me as India’s Test captain,” he said in a note posted on Twitter.
Below is his statement:
“It has taken 7 years of hard work, hard work and relentless dedication everyday to take the team in the right direction. I have worked with utmost sincerity and left nothing there. Everything has to be done at some level or the other. And for me as India’s Test captain, it is now. The journey has had many ups and downs, but there has never been a lack of effort or lack of faith. I have always given my 120 percent in everything I do. And if I can’t do that, I know it’s not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and can’t be dishonest towards my team.
“I would like to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for so long and more importantly, all the teammates who have had me for the team from day one and in any situation. never given up. , You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful. To Ravi bhai and the support group who were the engines behind this vehicle that consistently propelled us upwards in Test cricket, you all have played a big part in bringing this vision to life. Lastly, many thanks to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be a capable person who could take Indian cricket forward.
