As per the reports, a U.S. citizen named Cherish purchased the piece of jewelry from a jeweler located in Jaipur. Back then the jeweler was said to have claimed that the jewelry was original and also went ahead and provided the hallmark certificate to prove its purity.
Later when Cherish went back to the U.S. and displayed the jewelry at an exhibition, it was rejected saying that it was fake. She, then flew back to India to confirm the same with the shop owners named, Rajendra Soni and Gaurav Soni, both of who dismissed the allegations.
Cherish had also sent the piece of jewelry to other jewelry shops to check its purity, which confirmed that the jewelry was not worth the price and that it was indeed fake. Following the argument Cherish and the shop owners reached the police station to resolve the conflict.
Cherish demanded that her jewelry be replaced and also alleged that there were irregularities in other products that she had bought from them. However, the father-son seemed to deny the allegations and instead claimed that the women had forcibly taken the jewelry from their shop but the CCTV footage showed otherwise.
On May 18, Cherish filed an FIR against the shop owners after which both of them fled. “We arrested Kishore on May 19 for making fake certificates in exchange for money. A lookout notice has also been issued against Rajendra and Gaurav. Further investigation is underway,” says the SHO.
