The US State Department said it was not aware of any requests for US aid from Afghanistan’s Taliban government after Wednesday’s earthquake that killed at least 1,000 people.
State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters that the United States expects a humanitarian response to the disaster will be a topic of conversation between the Taliban and US officials in the coming days.
Disaster management officials said the death toll from Wednesday’s quake in Afghanistan has risen to 1,000, in which more than 600 have been injured and the death toll is expected to rise as information comes from remote mountain villages.
