Ukrainian MP hits Russian delegate who pulled down Ukraine flag in Ankara

A Ukrainian leader assaulted a Russian delegate, who reprimanded ukraineHe lost the national flag during a summit in Ankara According to reports on Thursday.

Ukrainian leader Oleksandr Marikovsky is seen raising his country’s national flag as he is interviewed by Russian representative Olga Timofeeva.

Upon seeing this, Valery Stavitsky, a member of the Russian team, was seen walking up to Mr. Marikovsky and tearing the flag from his hands.

The two delegates gathered at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

As the Russian delegate left, the Ukrainian MP charged at him and threw a few punches, as others at the venue tried to intervene.

In the 43-second long video, Marikovsky is purportedly seen attacking the Russian delegate and snatching the Ukrainian national flag from his hand.

Mr Stavitsky has not been seen retaliating against the attack by the MP from Ukraine. Some personnel present on the spot also removed it.

This video has been widely circulated on social media.

Mr Marikowski was also seen smoothing the flag while others looked on.

He shared the video on his Facebook page. Local Russian media reported that Mr Stavitsky was taken to hospital for a check-up.

Another video from the conference also showed members of the Ukrainian delegation raising the Ukrainian flag behind Ms Timofeeva as she addressed the conference in Ankara.

Kiev and Moscow have not issued any official statements on the incident.
