UK refugee scheme resettled just 4 Afghans since Taliban takeover, data shows

Kabul: Three unidentified terrorists on Friday detonated a car bomb and tried to attack the headquarters of an Afghan party led by veteran politician Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. The officers provided this information.

Ghairat Bahir, an official with the Hezb-e-Islami party, said two attackers were killed as they tried to enter the Kabul building – which also houses a mosque – and the third escaped.

“The explosion took place outside the car, so there was little damage,” he said.

Officials said Hekmatyar – an astute politician who served as prime minister in the 1990s – was inside at the time but was unwell.

Obaidullah Muddabir, a senior district police officer, confirmed two of the attackers were dead, but said he believed the third had been captured.

“I am outside the campus…the situation is under control,” he added.

“The guard at the Hezb-e-Islami office told us there were three attackers. He killed two while one was injured before reaching the target.

Hekmatyar is regarded as a political survivor in Afghanistan, which fought against the Soviet occupation, the Taliban’s first term in power and the Western-backed government that ruled until last August.
