The Razzies respond after nominating 12-year-old for ‘worst actress’

Razzies 12-year-old actor Ryan has responded to criticism about nominating Kira Armstrong in the “Worst Actor” category.

Shortly after hearing the news, many fans attacked the Razzies for being “mean-spirited and classless”.

Actor Julian Hilliard tweeted, “The Razzies are already mean and classless, but nominating a child is repulsive and wrong.” “Why risk a child being bullied or worse? Be better.”

Another user said: “The Razzies are more despicable for nominating a child actor.”

Razzies co-founder John Wilson responds to criticism told BuzzFeed Roughly 1,100 voting members placed Armstrong in fifth place, but organizers still debated whether to include him because of his age.

They ultimately decided to honor the votes and include Armstrong.

“I can see how it could be taken as [as mean], I don’t think it was meant to be,” Wilson said. “I think the people who get angry about it – I don’t even know how to say it. The anger is interesting, maybe justified to some degree, but I think it’s too much.

“There’s a righteousness to it. It’s the Razzie Awards for goodness sake!”

Wilson acknowledged that the Razzies “probably made a very bad move”.

“The intent was to be funny,” he said. “In this particular instance, it looks like we missed out badly. I’ll admit it.

The Independent’s Jacob Stallworthy has argued that The Razzies hit “a new low with their 2023 nominations”. and that “the time has come to end them once and for all”.
