Telegram Users Will Soon Be Able to Pay in the Cryptocurrency Tonecoin

Telegram’s Open Network (TON) community said in a blog post that Telegram users will soon be able to donate and pay for their subscriptions in the cryptocurrency TONcoin — and channel administrators will be able to collect their income in the same cryptocurrency.

“The TON community is proud to announce that the TON blockchain and Donate, a Telegram-verified payments service, have become official partners,” Blockchain Protocol said on its official Telegram handle.

Telegram CEO and co-founder Parel Durov revealed that the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain technology continues to develop even after the company officially abandoned the project last year. “I am proud that the technology we have created is alive and evolving. When it comes to scalability and speed, TON is still ahead of everything else in the blockchain space,” Durov wrote in a Telegram article on Thursday said in.

It should be noted that Telegram aimed to explore Web3 with decentralized storage last year, with the project being called the Telegram Open Network Blockchain. However, the project was abandoned after the United States Securities and Exchange Commission accuses Telegram of violating securities laws after falling into controversy.

Durov mentioned that the project had moved from TON to Toncoin. Unlike the original TON, the new project is independent of Telegram.

“When Telegram said goodbye to TON last year, I hoped that the next generation of developers would one day move forward with our vision of a mass market blockchain platform… the open TON project, which they rebranded to TON… I am proud that the technology we have created is alive and growing. When it comes to scalability and speed, TON is still ahead of everything else in the blockchain space. While not benefiting humanity from this project It would be a shame to see, ”said Durov.

Meanwhile, Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly) Facebook) also faced similar backlash from lawmakers and regulators, while maintaining its cryptocurrency. Libra (now rebranded to Diem) was conceived from the beginning of the project.
