A train accident took place at Mumbai’s Matunga railway station at around 10.15 pm on Friday. Puducherry Express (11005) and Gadag Express (11139) collided on the same track. In the accident, three coaches of the Puducherry Express going from Dadar to Puducherry derailed. It is a matter of relief that no casualty has been reported so far in this train accident.

Due to non-change of track, both the trains came on the same track.

Central Railway CPRO Shivaji M. Suthar said that Puducherry Express had left from Dadar while Gadag Express had departed from CST. Due to non-change of track at Matunga railway station, Gadag Express also came on the tracks of Puducherry Express, due to which both the trains collided. Due to the collision of the bogies, the overhead wire broke due to which 3 coaches of Puducherry Express derailed with a loud bang.

However, due to low speed of both the trains, a major accident was averted. At present, the movement of local trains has been affected due to the accident. The reasons for both the trains coming on the same track are being investigated. Information related to loco pilots is being collected.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, top officials of Central Railway and Western Railway reached the spot. Stranded passengers are being rescued with the help of GRP. Mumbai Central Railway has also issued helpline numbers. Number 1512 has been issued for emergency. At present, both the trains have been canceled for today.
