India’s National Center for Seismology said a shallow and strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck the Myanmar-India border region early Friday.

According to eyewitness accounts posted by users on the European-Mediterranean Earthquake Center (EMSC) website and Twitter, the quake was felt as far as Chittagong in Bangladesh and Kolkata in eastern India.

“Very strong,” one such witness posted on the EMSC from Chittagong, about 184 km (115 mi) west of the epicenter.

The EMSC rated the quake at 5.8, giving it a magnitude of 6.0, and said the epicenter was about 126 km southeast of Aizawl in north-east India.
