SMC team attacked by men on bike after stray cattle impounded: Cops

A team of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday was attacked by two men on a bike who forcefully took away impounded cattle, police said.

“We have registered an offence against unknown cattle rearers who attacked the SMC team and forcefully took away the impounded animals. On the basis of the CCTV footage, we are trying to identify the suspects. Once they are identified, we will arrest them. The condition of the SMC officials who were injured is said to be stable,” said Kapodara Police inspector M B Vachhani.

The SMC’s Varachha B Zone cattle-catching team was on surveillance duty when the incident happened. The officials caught three stray cattle near the vegetable market at Bhaktinagar Society in the Kapodara area.

When they were on their way to the civic body office, two men on a bike attacked SMC official Kalabhai Parmar, his assistant, and a marshal. They then took away the stray animals that were impounded.

Parmar filed a complaint at the Kapodara Police Station against two unknown men.

An FIR has been filed under IPC sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public function) and 332 (Voluntary causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty).
