Senate bill to boost chip production, advanced technology set to move forward

WASHINGTON—After weeks of uncertainty, the Senate is set to vote this week to advance a package of $280 billion in subsidies and research funding to boost US competitiveness in advanced technology.

The bill fell in the midst of partisan bickering earlier this month, but then came together in a few days, The Senate was expected to proceed in a procedural vote on Monday, setting up a final vote in that chamber later in the week. But the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., NY) delayed voting until Tuesday, citing East Coast storms disrupting senators’ travel plans. He said he was hopeful that the work on the bill would be completed soon.
