In the early hours of Sunday, four robbers broke into the house of a retired forest department employee in Trivedi Camp area near Dera Bassi and looted it with Rs 90,000. Landlord Mahinder Singh (75) confronted them and tried to stop them but the robbers overpowered them.
Singh told the police that he was sleeping with his wife and son when around 1 a.m. he heard some sounds in their courtyard. According to Singh, he saw that four men had entered his house and were carrying sticks.
“I challenged them but they attacked me with sticks. They took away Rs 90,000 and four cell phones,” Mahindra Singh told the police.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh said that the robbers also took digital video recorded (DVR) with them. Police have started investigation by registering a case against four unidentified people.
