The Kennel Club of Philadelphia’s dog show airs everything Thanksgiving and has the most winning dogs in the country. Maybe you know it as a program that goes like Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which you leave on the TV and forget about until you fall back on the couch and think, “Oh yes, that’s it.”

But this puppy pageant is much more than background noise to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. These iconic dogs, who have been trained and groomed for a few minutes on the national stage over the years, deserve your attention. So ahead of this year’s competition, learn about the past decade of National Dog Show champs, representing the cutest, cutest, and best-behaved pups in America.

Curious yet sweet whiskey won 23 Best-in-Show Titles Before scoring big at the 2018 National Dog Show.
Whiskey is named for the alcohol it cannot drink.

2013: Jewel the American Foxhound

Not to be confused with the folk singer of the same name, this jewel is a real gem.

Jewel arrived at the National Dog Show with the help of a champion.

Fun facts: “Ira” is the Welsh word for “snow” – fitting for this puppy, who was bred from the frozen sperm of a top terrier from the mid-1980s, according to his breeder.
