Every year the government publishes a list of designated days for flag hoisting on government buildings.

Yet guidance on the flag changed according to the archives of its code on the hoisting of the Union flag in 2022, with changes meaning the Duke of York’s February 19 birthday is no longer a designated day.

Only the birthdays of Her Majesty and her successor, the Prince of Wales, will be marked.

The government said: ‘Since 2021, the default position is to fly the flag throughout the year until another flag is flown.’
